The is no doubt that the Oxford Canal is totally wonderful.
After the Thames it is another world!
But it beats any canal I have yet visited even the Wey Navigation.
So today I began my journey towards Banbury and maybe Birmingham.
There are two ways in.................Sheepwash Cut and Dukes Cut.
Finding the entrance to the former is not easy.
No signs anywhere. But the first picture shows the entrance!
But within minutes you are passing relics of the industrial past.
Here is a discussed railway swing bridge.
The cut is very narrow and in places low.
Then suddenly there is a wide open piece of water and there is the first and last lock of the best canal yet!
The journey has started!
