Penguins at Boulders Beach

Just a short walk from the centre Simon's Town is Boulders Beach which is one of the best places to see penguins in Africa.,
It is the home of the Black-footed penguin.
This is the only species that breeds in Africa.
They are small as penguins go and reach only 28 inches in height.
Nonetheless they are a great sight on a day when the temperature is above 30 degrees (c)
Some people call them Jackass penguins because of the donkey braying sound they frequently make.
The colony was only established by the penguins in the 1980s.  This mainland colony only probably became possible because of a lack of a reduction in predators.
Boulders beech in itself is magnificent and a fitting backdrop for swimming penguins.
