The water levels were low as we approached Upper Heyford last night and British Waterways were on he case trying to flush water into the pounds below Heyford Common Lock.
But we did not expect anything more than a lack of water..........................
When Hallmark arrived at Northbrook Lock we knew there was trouble.
First there were loads of yellow jackets to be seen and then a sign saying the lock was closed.
It was 11.00am and we were in for a delay.
The top gate by all accpunt had a serious leak.
There were a dozen BW men on the job and didn't they work hard!Hallmark was the only narrow boat waiting to go towards Thrupp but there were already three waiting to come the other way.
By 2.10pm all was sorted and repaired and Hallmark was thge first boat allowed into the lock.
As we chugged out heading for Pigeon Lock I counted the boats waiting.
There were now 11 wanting to travel up and four down.
But lets be clear BW did a brilliant job in fixing things so rapidly.
