Dukes 92

Time for a pint!
First stop is a canal-side 'watering hole'.
Dukes 92 is a well known and very popular pub on the Rochdale Canal.
It is located in the heart of the historic Castleford area of Manchester area of the city centre
It takes its name from the adjacent Dukes Lock which is the final lock on the Rochdale Canal.
As the bottom lock it should have been No 1 lock but some say as the canal was built by a Yorkshireman he would not have the first lock of the canal in Lancashire!
The public house was only opened in 1991 and was originally a stable block for the horses delivering foods off the barges to the Merchants warehouse opposite.
