Unusual church in Balham

Cross Balham High Road near the railway station and you should see Balham's parish church.
It is St Mary and St John the Divine and it dates from 1808.
The church is Grade II listed and has a Victorian apsed chancel with mosaics.
The original bell in the Wren-style clock tower still chimes the hours and announces services.
Probably the church's most unusual feature is domed baptistry projecting from the front. This is now used as a chapel.
