Deep locks in China and deep locks in Oxfordshire

Here is an absolutely enormous lock on a canal in China.
It is so deep and wide................
A colleague of work sent me a set of photos to show me what the locks were like on the Yangtse River.
These three very large boats are almost risen the top of a very deep lock and the distance they have risen is enormous.
It made me think about the deepest lock I went through on my summer trip up the Oxford Canal.
This was Somerton Deep Lock.  A rise of a mere 12 foot!
