A gate to somewhere

Walking along the Oxford Canal tow-path searching for a pub after a hard days boating. I'm between Aynho Wharf and Kings Sutton.  The nearest pub is across a field, over the River Cherwell and under the M40.  I think I might 'give it a miss'.
I spy a gate in a hedge.
Where might it lead.
It is a gate to somewhere or nowhere!
